CNC Router: Safety and Quick Start Guide

Transform large sheets of wood, plastic, and aluminum into complex 3D furniture, precision-engineered parts, and oversized signs with computer-controlled accuracy.

⚠️ MANDATORY SAFETY RULES (Click to Expand) ⚠️
  1. Never Leave Unattended: Unlike a 3D printer, you must stay within reach of the E-Stop at all times during a cut. Friction can cause wood dust to ignite in seconds.
  2. Eye and Ear Protection: The spindle and vacuum system are extremely loud and can throw chips at high velocity. PPE is mandatory.
  3. Keep Clear of Rails: The gantry moves with enough force to cause serious injury. Never lean on the table or reach into the work area while the machine is “Enabled.”
  4. Collet Tightness: Ensure your bits are properly seated and the collet is tightened with the correct wrenches. A loose bit at 18,000 RPM is a lethal projectile.
  5. Secure Your Work: Use appropriate clamps, screws, or the vacuum table (if applicable). If a part moves during a cut, hit the E-Stop immediately.

Equipment Information

Component Model Specs Software
CNC Table CNC Router Parts 4’x8’ 48" x 96" Work Area Mach 3
Spindle UGRA Water-Cooled 2.2kW / Up to 24k RPM

Software: Vectric VCarve | Autodesk Fusion

Start Up Instructions

  • Clear the Table: Ensure no tools, screws, or debris are on the rack-and-pinion rails or the spoilboard.
  • Power Sequence: Turn on the control box first, then launch Mach 3. Reset the E-Stop in the software.
  • Home and Zero: Home the machine (G28) to establish machine coordinates. Jog to your material and zero your X, Y, and Z (using the touch plate or paper method).
  • Dust Collection (Wood Only): Ensure the dust boot is attached, and the shop vacuum/dust collector is ON before hitting Cycle Start.

Shut Down Instructions

  • Clean the Rails: Use compressed air or a brush to clear sawdust from the gear racks and linear rails. Sawdust buildup causes “lost steps” and ruined parts.
  • Stow Your Bits: Remove the bit from the collet and return it to the storage rack. Never leave a bit in the spindle overnight.
  • Power Down: Close Mach 3, then power off the control box.
  • Vacuum the Area: Clean the spoilboard and the floor surrounding the machine. A clean CNC is a safe CNC.
