Cricut / Heat Press: Safety and Quick Start Guide

Create custom apparel, precision vinyl decals, and professional heat-transfer graphics to brand your projects or personalize your gear.

⚠️ MANDATORY SAFETY RULES (Click to Expand) ⚠️
  1. Extreme Heat: Heat presses operate between 300°F – 400°F. Never touch the upper platen while the machine is powered on or cooling down.
  2. Pinch Hazard: Keep fingers clear of the hinge and pressure plates when engaging the manual press.
  3. Sharp Blades: The Cricut uses a fine-point carbide blade. Do not touch the underside of the tool housing.
  4. Ventilation: Some heat-transfer materials (like certain low-quality PVC vinyls) can release fumes. Only use shop-approved materials.
  5. No Unattended Pressing: Never leave a heat press locked in the “down” position. This is a fire hazard and will ruin your garment.

Start Up Instructions

  • Prepare the Mat: Ensure your Cricut mat is “sticky” enough for your material. Use a brayer (roller) to ensure the material is flat and free of bubbles.
  • Select Your Tool: Confirm the correct blade (Fine Point, Deep Point, or Rotary) is installed in Clamp B.
  • Preheat the Press: Turn on the heat press and set your temperature/time according to your material’s spec sheet. Wait for it to reach full temp before pressing.
  • Test Cut: Always perform a “boundary box” or small test cut to ensure your blade depth is correct for the material thickness.

Shut Down Instructions

  • Power Down: Turn off the Cricut and the Heat Press immediately after use.
  • Clear the Mats: Remove all scrap vinyl from the cutting mats and replace the clear plastic protective covers to keep them clean.
  • Stow Tools: Return weeders, scrapers, and extra blades to the designated tool organizer.
  • Scrap Management: Dispose of small vinyl “weeding” scraps in the trash; do not leave them on the worktables.
